Hi, I'm Mel!
A Registered Art Therapist, Counsellor & School Counsellor based in Shellharbour, NSW

I've always believed in the power of art. With an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts, creativity has been part of who I am for as long as I can remember — but it wasn't until I began volunteering with vulnerable young people that I discovered art therapy, and everything clicked into place.

Watching children and teens open up through creative expression — in ways they simply couldn't through words alone — sparked a passion in me that has shaped everything I do. I went on to train as a professionally registered Art Therapist and counsellor with ANZACATA, and I haven't looked back.

Today I work as both a practicing art therapist and a school counsellor across primary and high schools in the Illawarra — which means I understand the world children and teenagers are navigating every single day.

My Approach

I work from a person-centred and trauma-informed framework, which means every session is tailored to the individual child or young person in front of me. There's no pressure, no right or wrong way to create, and absolutely no need to be "good at art."

My role is to create a space that feels safe, calm and genuinely enjoyable — where young people can explore their emotions, make sense of their experiences and build confidence through the creative process. Sometimes that looks like painting. Sometimes it's clay, walking outdoors, or simply playing a game. I follow the young person's lead.

Parents often tell me their child came home from a session smiling — that means everything to me.
